Our last day in USA, we had a half day free time to make sure our luggage were ready to go forward for the next 27 months away from home.   

I followed couple youngsters walk out to see the Liberty Bell, since it was only half an hour walking distance from hotel we stayed. 

We passed the city hall building, I believe it was....

To this building where the first Constitution got signed.

And went on to see the Liberty Bell.



We had to hurry back to hotel for 12 noon departure to New York airport for Johannesburg, South Africa.


We arrived in Johannesburg on August 19th nearly 6pm local time. 

Was that smoky air covered the city?

About a dozen of Peace Corps South Africa staffs were waited for us in airport and escorted us to check in at the City Lodge in walking distance connected with the airport.  We had a gorgeous dinner before got sent off to bed.

 

The next morning, we PCV-Ts with trainers were in two buses plus a few trucks for our luggage for the 27 months to come, we went from Johannesburg to Pretoria.

On the way out from Johannesburg, I think I saw these six Unclear Towers in some distance from airport?


Many large areas with burnt mark, seemed pretty recently done.... that might have been the smokes still in the air everywhere.

Many large cattle farms along the road.....

When our driver was filling up the gas, I saw the locals wore the thick winter jackets.....  The temperature was 75F, and now this is the ending of their winter months.... Hmm.... What would the temperature be in their summer months?

More burnt marks.......

It seemed. WiFi does not let me post any more pictures fof today.

  There are quite a few of Aloe plants..... The sand here are larger, about half or 1/3 of a piece of uncooked rice and rough.... when got into shoes, it can cut the skin through the shocks.... of course, I have learned it fast, when I wear the flip flap to empty bath water in the dark..... my feet had few holes from just walked short distance......  August 26, 2023  For the thought of the unknown host home in village to be coming up in reality and also for the serious lightning and thunder storm blew through half of the night, I had not slept well at all....  Maggie had to knock on my door to tell me it was 6:30am....7am breakfast, 8am to depart..... Didn’t I set my alarm at 5am???..... When we walked into the church, everyone stood up to sing and dance to welcome us....   How moving this had stricken to every one of us.... Many of us were with tears..... The announcement made at the end of the formalities, on which family was to have which one of us PCV-Ts to go home with them..... The greatest excitment so far..... She speaks enough English to make me at home from the very moment she had first embraced me at the front of all PCV-Ts, LCFs and locals....... The LoskopDam Forever Resort was truly beautiful any time of the day. Before 7am to walk to restaurant at the other end of resort, sun was still lower than tree top and roof top. Walking till nearer to the conference hall where our classes were, the sun was up almost at top of trees and roofs. After done with breakfast, the air was just starting to get warmer..... By the noon time it was hot enough to run for the shades..... After classes ended, the sun was at the our front again, on our way walking back to cabin #18..... And it gets dark in the hurry..... so I do not go for dinner at 6pm, I had been packed my dinner at buffet lunch time and bring back with me after the classes ended.
